    General Job Description

     

    MPR Associates is actively growing our business in the medical product development area and is looking for a unique individual with an electrical engineering and firmware/software development background. The individual will work on electrical engineering and embedded systems assignments with responsibilities to: define project requirements, develop system architectures, design circuit boards, develop firmware/software for embedded systems, plan and verify systems through analysis and testing, and communicate results internally and externally. 

     

    The ideal candidate will have experience designing hardware and software systems for various embedded platforms. Experience with software/firmware development for safety-critical systems and/or medical devices is desired.  The candidate must be willing to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment and exhibit strong technical skills and self-motivation. 

     

    The job location is at MPR’s Chelmsford, MA office. Visits to MPR headquarters in Alexandria, VA will be required for on-boarding.

    Duties/Responsibilities

     Develop new embedded systems for medical devices, including:

    • Evaluate design tradeoffs and develop system and software architecture
    • Prepare system and software requirements specifications
    • Design circuit boards
    • Develop software/firmware code in various environments
    • Perform system troubleshooting and debugging
    • Prepare documentation of software and electrical system design
    • Qualify systems including EMC and Safety testing
    • Communicate technical recommendations and approaches to project team members and clients

    Qualifications

    Education

    B.S. Electrical or Computer Engineering with 4 to 10 years of experience in engineering related to product design and embedded systems development.

     

    Qualifications

     

    • Proficient in debugging embedded systems including familiarity with testing equipment and methods: data acquisition systems, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzer
    • Experience in these areas required:
      • Circuit board design for schematic capture and board layout / routing
      • Software/Firmware development using C/C+
    • Experience in these areas highly preferred
      • Embedded Operating System and Board Support Package development
      • Android and/or Apple iOS programming
      • VHDL or Verilog programming for FPG
    • Experience in the following areas is considered a plus
      • Working knowledge of medical device industry standards: IEC 60601-1 and IEC6230
      • Familiarity with PCB design and IPC Standards
      • Use of automated software test tools

     

    Skills - Personal

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and senior management
    • Ability to multi-task across teams of engineers and managers on various projects
    • Ability to mentor more junior engineers and oversee their work efforts
    • Motivated to tackle new problems and take on new responsibilities
    • Good time management and organization skills

     

    Travel

    As required by project assignments. Estimated is 10% - 20%
